Our Group Health & Safety Policy sets out clearly defined expectations to keep our people and our environment safe.
The policy is supported by group-wide initiatives such as our safety-first programme.
We maintain a rolling Three-Year Plan that includes group-wide reporting and assessment to ensure we maintain the highest standards.
Process safety management is a disciplined framework for managing the integrity of hazardous operating systems and processes by applying good design principles, engineering controls and operating practices. It deals with the prevention and control of incidents involving the release of hazardous materials or energy, such as fire or explosion during the movement of fuel, fire within fuel vapour recovery systems, loss of containment leading to the formation of a vapour cloud, or a hydrocarbon spill.
Our operations involve lifting, lowering and carrying, working at height, operating plant and machinery, and driving heavy goods vehicles. As such, we maintain a strong focus on occupational safety management through our Policy expectations and standards.
We are committed to improving our environmental performance and year on year we significantly reduced the number of spills in our operations.
We maintain robust engineering and operating controls to prevent and mitigate loss of containment. When a spill does occur, we take it seriously. All spills and near misses are recorded regardless of quantity so that lessons are learnt.
Spills are reported to the relevant environmental authorities where applicable and are cleaned-up to the required standard.
This year, one spill was classified as having major medium-term environmental impact.
