Energy for today, built for tomorrow: How DCC Energy works as one global team

Behind well-known brand names like Flogas, Certas and Butagaz sits one energy business – DCC Energy. Our structure ensures that local leadership stays close to customers while drawing on the scale, expertise and investment of the group behind them. Here's how DCC Energy keeps our brands, and teams, moving in the same direction.

“We provide customers with energy to succeed today and prepare for tomorrow.”

That’s DCC Energy’s purpose, more prominent now than ever before with a sole focus on energy, evident not only through our business but our new name. "This reflects what matters most to us – providing our customers with multi-energy solutions to run their businesses, heat their homes and keep moving today, while supporting them as energy markets and their needs change,” our Chief Executive Donal Murphy explains about the move from DCC plc to DCC Energy plc.

We’re also guided by our values, setting out core beliefs that inform everything we do as a business. These values provide an important foundation to support performance, clarity and growth:

  • We keep people safe
  • We put customers at the centre
  • We grow as a team

“They reinforce our strong focus on customers, disciplined delivery and safe, reliable operations,” Donal notes. “Keeping people safe underpins our license to operate. Putting customers at the centre supports sustainable growth and sound capital allocation. Growing as a team strengthens leadership, capability and our ability to scale and integrate businesses.”

Get to know us: What DCC Energy does

With a heritage built over 50 years, DCC Energy is a consolidator of the highly fragmented energy distribution market. We provide customers with energy products and services that are secure, cleaner and competitive. Our model is to drive organic growth by being the best customer company in energy, while expanding into new markets through the acquisition of strong local energy businesses. We invest in their people and brands, and provide the capital, supply chain capabilities and expertise needed to support long-term growth.

We operate in two segments:

  • Solutions: sales and distribution of liquid gas, oil, and a growing range of future fuels including biogases and biofuels such as HVO; we also support customers through the transition to lower-carbon energy, with solar installation, energy management and EV charging.
  • Mobility: keeps commercial and consumer vehicles moving, through service stations and fleet management across Europe.

In Mobility, it’s about the experience we provide to people on the road, as Andrew Graham, DCC Energy’s Mobility MD, explains: "Mobility is about making our customers' journeys as smooth and hassle-free as possible – reliable access to liquid fuels, EV charging and other on-the-road services, easy payment, and sites that are safe, clean and efficient."

The brands customers know

Customers don't buy directly from DCC Energy plc. They buy from the likes of Flogas in Ireland, Motia in the UK, Butagaz in France, and Progas in Germany. Local brands, trusted in their own markets, run by people who know their customers.

That structure is deliberate. Each brand stays close to its own customers and market, while drawing on group-level procurement, shared technical expertise and investment backing that no single local business could build alone. But scale provides more than purchasing power and investment capacity. It creates opportunities for people to learn from peers across countries, functions and businesses, helping best practice travel quickly through the organisation. For the customer, that means a broader range of products, more resilient supply and faster access to newer technologies like solar and battery technology – the practical upside of scale, delivered through a business that people know and trust.

In Continental Europe, home to brands such as Butagaz and Progas, that's the part of DCC Energy’s model Emmanuel Trivin, MD Energy Solutions in Continental Europe, highlights. "There's one thing in the DCC Energy model that translates very well," he explains. "It's the quality of our people, the quality of our local leadership, and the fact that we are an organisation where our local leadership is really empowered to develop and implement the growth agenda in each of the markets."

Across every market, it's this collaboration Kevin Lucey, our Chief Operating Officer, calls out when he talks about why the model works: "DCC Energy wins in its markets because we have a strong multi-energy offering providing secure, cleaner and competitive energy safely. We also have strong customer relationships with real operational expertise and scale. As well as disciplined capital investments, we invest in great people; people are our real differentiator."

Global but local

Local leadership makes the decisions closest to the customer, and what holds the group together across markets is the united culture, not hierarchy.

DCC Energy increasingly brings colleagues together across geographies and disciplines to share expertise, challenge thinking and accelerate progress. Whether developing new partnerships, strengthening commercial capabilities or exploring how digital and AI can improve customer experience and operational performance, teams are learning from one another and applying successes across the group.

“DCC Energy’s culture is the engine that enables our growth,” Nicola McCracken, our Chief People Officer, shares. “It sets high-performance standards, but it balances the entrepreneurial mindset with accountability. It ensures that we remain close to customers but connected to each other across the group globally.”

In practice, that balance looks different depending on the market: a technician in Denmark retraining from gas systems to heat pumps, a driver in Chicago delivering propane in sub-zero temperatures – each responding to what their market needs, without waiting on instruction from the centre.

“The energy market is changing, and in some markets, it is changing very quickly,” says Christian Heise, MD Energy Solutions, Nordics. “For DCC Energy, it is important to support the customers in the energy transition, having the right products, having the right services, but most of all it’s important that we have the right people who can take care of our customers every single day.”

A clear market opportunity

That combination – local knowledge, group-level scale and one culture – is also what guides us to where we grow next. Mandy O'Sullivan, our Group Director of Corporate Development, sums it up: "The current landscape presents three clear opportunities for DCC Energy: geographic expansion, broadening our energy solution offering, and helping our customers to transition to lower carbon solutions. Underpinning all of that is the strength of our long-term customer relationships."

Different markets, different brands, different technologies, all following the same operating model underneath and driven by the same purpose. Whichever business a customer deals with, and whatever energy they need, the structure behind it doesn't change. DCC Energy is made of local people making local decisions, backed by a group built to help them reach market leading positions and develop long-term customer relationships.

As customer needs evolve and energy systems become more complex, the ability to combine local insight with global expertise will remain one of DCC Energy's key advantages.
